Custom rugby balls for clubs: what are your options?

Your club is heading into a new season, sponsors are coming on board and you want the balls on the pitch to show who you are. Or you are organising a tournament and want something tangible to give away. Custom balls sound like the logical step, but then the questions start: how many do you need to order, what does it cost and how long does it take?

The minimum order at RAM Rugby is 25 balls per model, size and colour. Standard lead time is 14 to 18 weeks after confirmation. Need it faster? With an express surcharge of 3 euros per ball you can get delivery within 8 weeks. You can add club logos, sponsor names and club colours. Supply artwork as a vector file (EPS or AI) or high-resolution JPEG. Request a quote via the contact page.

What can you customise on a ball?

A custom rugby ball is more than a ball with a sticker. With full customisation the changes are built into the production of the ball itself, making the result more professional and more durable than a simple print applied afterwards.

  • Club logo or crest. The most requested option. Your logo is applied in full colour. Minimum 60 balls for a logo.
  • Sponsor name or sponsor logo. Great for visibility at matches, tournaments and training sessions. Sponsors appreciate this as a tangible return.
  • Club name or text. Possible from 25 balls. You can have the name, season or a slogan added.
  • Club colours. The base colour of the ball can be adjusted to match your club colours. Provide Pantone references for the most accurate colour reproduction.

Minimum order and pricing

The minimum order is 25 balls per model, size and colour. Beyond that, every custom order is made to measure. The price depends on the number of balls, ball type, size, colour scheme and what you want on the ball. A club name in one colour is a different job from a full-colour logo in club colours with a sponsor logo on the reverse.

What determines the price:

  • Number of balls, higher volumes mean lower cost per ball
  • Ball type: training ball or match ball
  • Size: 3, 4 or 5
  • What you want on the ball: name, logo, full-colour design or a combination
  • Colour scheme of the ball itself
  • Lead time: standard or express

Send a message via the contact page with your requirements: ball type, size, quantity and what you want on the ball. We will send you a tailored quote.

Lead times: what to plan for

Option Lead time Cost
Standard delivery 14 to 18 weeks after confirmation Free shipping
Express delivery 8 weeks after confirmation 3 euro surcharge per ball

Lead time starts after artwork approval and receipt of payment or purchase order. Planning custom balls for the start of a season or a tournament? Order at least 4 to 5 months in advance for standard delivery. With express you can order a bit later, but you still need around 2 months.

What file format do you need?

Vector file (preferred)

An EPS or AI (Adobe Illustrator) file is the ideal format. Vector files scale without quality loss and give the sharpest print. Do not have one? Check with whoever created your club logo.

High-resolution JPEG or PNG

No vector file? A high-resolution JPEG or PNG also works, provided the quality is sufficient. A 72 dpi logo is not suitable. Use at least 300 dpi at the intended print size.

No vector file available?

In that case the logo can be redrawn as a vector file for a small additional fee. The file then belongs to your club and can be reused for all future productions.

When do custom balls make sense?

  • Start of season. New balls anyway, so make them club-branded while you are at it.
  • Sponsor activation. A sponsor wanting visibility on the training pitch or during matches. Custom balls are a tangible return.
  • Club anniversary or tournament. Ideal as a giveaway or memento for participants.
  • Youth section. Custom balls in club colours strengthen club identity for young players.
  • School programmes. Schools introducing rugby give pupils a more concrete experience with a ball in school colours.

Checklist: what you need to place a custom ball order

  • Required: Artwork file. EPS, AI or high-resolution JPEG/PNG of your logo. No good file means no sharp print.
  • Required: Minimum order of 25 balls per model, size and colour.
  • Required: Order on time. Standard lead time is 14 to 18 weeks. Express is 8 weeks with surcharge.
  • Important: Pantone references for your club colours for the most accurate colour reproduction.
  • Important: Know which ball type you want. Training ball or match ball? And which size?
  • Useful: Always request a digital proof before production starts so you can see the result before printing begins.
  • Useful: Adding sponsor logos too? Collect all files in advance so you can supply everything in one go.

Questions from club managers and coaches

Which balls can we have customised?

Yes. RAM training balls and match balls can be fitted with a club logo, sponsor name and custom colours. Which ball type suits your club depends on intended use and which size you need.

Can we put multiple sponsors on one ball?

That is possible. The print area on a rugby ball is limited, but a combination of club logo and sponsor name or sponsor logo is a popular option. Include all desired elements in your enquiry and a digital proof will be made so you can see how it looks before production starts.

How long does the print last on a custom ball?

Print durability depends on use. With intensive training on artificial turf, an outer print wears faster than on grass. With full custom production the result is more robust than a print applied afterwards. Use custom balls primarily for matches, tournaments and representative purposes, and save unprinted training balls for daily hard use.

Can we order fewer than 25 balls for a small tournament?

The minimum order is 25 balls per model, size and colour. For smaller quantities you can look at personalisation after production, where a name or text is applied to a standard ball. That has fewer options than full custom production, but is possible in smaller quantities. Get in touch to discuss the options.

What if our club does not have a vector file of our logo?

The logo can be redrawn as a vector file for a small additional fee. The file then belongs to your club and can be used for all future productions, not just balls. It is a one-off investment you can also use for shirts, kit and other club materials.

Can we order custom balls for a specific age group?

Yes. Custom balls are available in all standard sizes: size 3 for players up to age 9, size 4 for ages 10 to 14 and size 5 for seniors. Want your youth section and seniors to each have their own ball? Minimum orders then apply per size separately.
